Books I am currently reading/using and would recommend - January 2009

My recommendation for the Month of January is Light on Snow by Anita Shreve.  I was a little put off by the subject matter, but once I started reading I was entranced by the clever observational tensions.  I also felt the device of writing in a past tense - ie through the eyes of person with the benefit of hindsight was clever and believable.

If you are staring at a blank page and wondering what to write about, consider what interests and influences you in your reading material.  I find as the first reader of my work, I have to write about something I am interested in, and my bedside table reflects my current interests.

Have a look at your bedside table and analyse the types of books that you choose to read, if they interest you enough to use your spare time to read them, they will interest others - this is the core base of your reader - perhaps?

I find what I read influences very much the style of my writing, I have authors whose writing I admire, those with good advice that I ought to take, and others I simply enjoy as a light read to relax at the end of the day with.
